BEING EMOTIONALLY CONVINCING – by JORGE ARAÚJO

With the reality, in which we insert in, changing so rapidly, a great capacity for initiative and adaptability is essential, such as a constant concern and relationships with others (emotional and social intelligences).

This means that, in addition to personality traits or individual characteristics of each one of us, it is decisive that in education and training terms we are integrated into a culture based on values that guide us from a behavioral viewpoint.

And be prepared an ongoing basis to know how to manage our emotions (emotional and social intelligences) and enhance our ability to have a clear vision of what we want to be and achieve (spiritual intelligence).

How?

Through a workout in the behavioral area, under time pressure and results, "training as you play" and "learning to do, doing", gradually acquiring behavioral habits that enable us to that, in the service of a collective, the important thing is not what we say but what we do and.

This means that, when we say that people are the most important for a country or an organization, we take responsibility to give specific signals, through our behaviors and attitudes, and we are truly concerned about these people. Listening to them and being sensitive to their problems, following them, watching them, giving them constant feedback, helping them to reflect in order to improve continuously.

However, much is said about the need to present winning attitudes. But what does that really mean?

A winning attitude begins to have as an essential basis, an emotional commitment to career and respective social and professional responsibilities.

Is based upon, a constant intention of individual improvement at the service of the collective, in order to achieve corresponding performances to the maximum potential that each one reveals. Also, as obvious, in the will that each of us evidence to assert ourselves socially.

But not only!

Sometimes we win, or we are successful and we feel bothered. Others, when we lose, or we are unsuccessful, we feel that we are on the right path that will lead us to future victories.

The winning attitude has its true expression whenever we operate in order to assist the  quality of the collective  that we make part, constantly pointing to the level of excellence that we aim to achieve, by working together to succeed.

More than words, the winning attitude requires attitudes and behaviors perseverant and ambitious, always seeking to improve and point objectives that force us to a constant overcoming. Working hard, establishing close personal relationships based on trust, pointing partial and global objectives ambitious but reachable. Revealing spirit of sacrifice at the service of the organization, knowing how to care for others, win humbly, lose with dignity, transforming the generality of negative events into positive. And above all, loving what we do!

Emotions that spread such as viruses, often, for obvious lack of positive attitudes of who leads, the apathy generalizes itself, the fear of making mistakes, the passivity, and the irresponsibility. Having us born creative, imaginative and motivated is, after all, the social educational and professional environment, in which we develop later, that will go demobilize us.

Who, for example, follow a group of children to initiate in the sport practice, immediately verifies a huge enthusiasm and delivery to the respective tasks. However, after a few years of school attendance and presences in trainings at the team clubs, all that disappears. I wonder why?

How to accept that while children and young we are intrinsically motivated, and arriving at adult age, we need the help of extrinsic actions stimulants of our motivation?

What cause us that gradually removes something that we lack?

With all the weight of the irony of this situation, we then watch teachers, trainers and psychologists, discussing more and more with the need of these same young people regain via extrinsic actions, what, after all, they intrinsically already had!

Human behavior has, in itself, deep motivational skills that, whenever the circumstances allow it, bloom in its fullness.

Again and again, company managers that, in the exercise of their professions seem disinterested confirm the same in the usufruct of their free times, participating, enthusiastic and committed, in hobbies of the most diverse.

How many of them in fact, after years of apathy and lack of motivation, simply because someone remembered to consult and hear them about what they really liked to do, they overcome completely and have an entirely transformation overnight?

Mobilize the motivation of everything and everyone must therefore be our main concern. And for that, we need to develop different forms of communication that lead us to a level of cooperation that gradually increase the necessary confidence levels.

Respecting the adjustment and adaptation of each member of the team to his task, responding to their needs of intrinsic and extrinsic thoughts (feedback), managing effectively the expectations they have in face of their performances.

Without invalidating the necessary preparation for what is expected, we should worry with the absolute need to prepare ourselves to be able to manage the unexpected. With the concern to reconcile, the most and the best possible, individual goals with collective goals, regulating collective life and knowing what to make, how and by whom. Eliminating as much as possible the fear of making mistakes and fostering a constant willingness to take risks and try new ways of approach an increasingly turbulent reality.

Among the organizations of the modern world that stand out, what truly distinguishes them is not knowledge and technology, where after all the balance is too evident. What distinguishes them from the others, are the attention they devote and the care they reveal about everything that concerns human behavior.

Organizations who are able to make people to cooperate and collaborate at the service of the common good, involving them and responsible them, naturally achieve the intended goal of a whole greater than the sum of its parts.

Which does not constitute quite a big surprise?

After all, are we not, in all our diversity, people and human beings? Why odd then, by the fact that is the behavior and attitudes of those people to present themselves today as the central issue on which we should to focus our attention?

We depend quite clearly of their performance and the attitudes and behaviors that they could have in face of the demands of reality and of the profession.

And once we arrived at this conclusion, it was unleashed immediately what can be called of a true "treasure hunt", hidden in a "success switch" that, once discovered, would give us the so desired success!

Whoever could discover the mother lode contained in the depths and complexities of human behavior, would be "well in life." And then, from there emerged many and diverse "recipes" that proliferate in today's business world.

As if it were possible to "frame" our humanity and emotions in a number of recipes that, once implemented, would result in motivated and committed employees.

The complexity of our human reactions cannot be faced with so simplicity!

Therefore, it is urgent to increase the investment in training and development of people and teams, improve the conditions in which they work (installations, material, equipment, etc.), eliminate all kinds of obstacles that hinder a good performance (environment, leadership, etc.) and to train continuously their attitudes and behaviors.

And avoid letting ourselves be divide between what we think we are, (the imaginary self), what we truly are, (the real self) and the impact we have on others. This means a need to seek the information that we lack, through various tests and questionnaires and the constant presence of those who help us to "see in the mirror."

The observation, questions and listening skills of a coach, allow him to give us feedback and help to reflect and deepen in what are our strengths and weaknesses, what mistakes we make and how to fix them (continuous improvement, constant pursuit of excellence).

Furthermore, we must try to be worthy of the trust of those around us, proving to be able to speak the truth, be transparent, honest, upfront and revealing a constant concern with the expectations and ambitions of others.

According to the basic rules, long-held, about communication, we should be concerned more with those whom we address; creating the necessary conditions so that what we say and do be heard and understood by those to whom we address.

Contrary to what was believed for a long time, in the communication is not only important what is said! Also not only what is heard! But rather what is understood!

And above all, the communicative impact of what we say! Beyond the content (words), issues such as body language and tone of voice, are presented with huge importance in communicating with others.

Communicate is make ourselves understood and, as such, depends not only of the environment in which it moves our interlocutor, as obviously from what we intend to transmit and the context in which we find ourselves.

This compels that, if I want to communicate, I must oblige myself, not only to know my universe, but mainly identify the universe of the person to whom I address.

The message to deliver is not just what I say, but also what I am!

And complies with each of us the responsibility to foster the creation of an organizational environment, driving force and creator of the best possible conditions for people and organizations be succeed.

Where people pursue health, well-being and quality of life that they lack, but also the satisfaction with what they do, pride of belonging, distinction, social recognition and personal statement.

And where organizations, never forgetting the results, productivity, and competitiveness, profit and image, do not abdicate simultaneously of the positive social responsibility to which they aspire.
